Should you ask partner the question?

This hand provides an interesting look into a competitive auction. South opens 1♠ and West overcalls 2♣ — with 15 HCP and QTx in spades, they may feel tempted to overcall 1NT, even with the singleton ♥Q, but we’re not that bold. At least not today.

North passes and then East helps us out with a heart response. This gives us more confidence in our ♥Q actually pulling her weight. But now comes the point of our rebid…

Answer: 3NT

Do we rebid 3♣? Do we rebid 2NT? 3NT?

Let’s walk through the options:
1. We rebid 3♣ — this is the same action we would take if we had QJTxxx of clubs and 10 measly HCP. I think this is far too weak of an approach with this hand.

2. 2NT — this is better, we have a stopper and this shows real values. But our partner has shown that they’re likely a max for their initial pass.

Which brings us to 3. 3NT –> I think this is probably the way to go, we have a stopper, we have 15 working HCP, we have the ♥Q for partner’s suit and we don’t have to worry about them getting lost along the way. We know that they have likely 10-11 HCP, and that should be enough for game in NT. Our club suit is also fairly nice and if our partner has two cards in clubs, we’re looking pretty nice here.
